Someone to Really Listen?

I am so glad that you are here.

I too know what it is like to want someone to truly listen, only to have that person, no matter how well intentioned, to try to "fix" me instead.

I also know what it feels like to think that there is no one out there who cares...or that I would be a pest if I called someone...or that my life and my challenges just don't matter.

I know what it is like to struggle with my life alone, by myself, only circling round and round, coming right back to where I started.

Most people cannot listen long enough to others, not because they don't care, but because they have not yet learned to listen long enough to themselves.  We need to first embrace our own pain so that we can truly be with others and listen to theirs as well.

There are many ways to do this.

The January 3rd hors-d'oeuvre describes a four-step journalling process that can help you learn to identify what thoughts and emotions are relics of the past and which ones are true  concerns of the present moment.   This will help quiet the chatter in your mind that often leads to a flight or flee response.

A trusted therapist or life coach can also help you sort out your thoughts and understand your needs as well as the needs of others.

You'll also find many articles, blogs and daily hors-d'oeurves on this web site that we hope will help you develop this distinction, as well as learning that you are not alone in your struggle.

And, learning to listen to yourself and to others...learning to listen all of the way through ...takes a lot of practice.  If you would like to have a safe place to go, where your life truly matters to others, where you can practice these new distinctions,  please explore joining us during HappyHour as soon as possible.

We will be there for you, listening with our whole hearts....I promise.
